Sizzling Performance at the 27th International Swimmers Meet in Bühl (Schwarzwaldbad)

Posted on: 10th July 2019

Since 1993 Schwimmteam Bühl has been organising a yearly meet, hosting around 400 swimmers from many different countries.  BSSC has a great history of attending this meet – in fact, the 50m Fly swim meet record is still held by Geoff Short from 3rd July 2010, whilst the 16 years 100m Breast record is held by Bernice Edgeworth (2007), Cira Fletcher holds the 17 years 50m Breast record (2016), and Dan Chada holds the 15 & 17 years 50m Back (2016 & 2018) and the 17 years 100m Back (2018) records!

At the end of June, whilst the rest of the club were sweltering in Luton, six UK based BSSC swimmers (Callum D, Callum H, Nick, Ellie, Sarah & Nellie) headed across to Germany for this outdoor meet and joined forces with a number of coaches and swimmers from BSM Marlins in Muscat (Stu, Henry, Marya, Josie & Olivia), with whom we have really close links.  The combined team were a force to be reckoned with and finished 5th out of 20 clubs on the medals table, collecting 18 Gold, 22 Silver and 14 Bronze medals!  Two of the golds were relay successes, so the trophies will be coming home to BSSC and the titles will need defending next year!

All the individual and team performances were superb, but a few need special mentions:

  • Henry Baker broke two age group records with two outstanding swims – 100m Free (54.83) and 50 Free (24.96)
  • Special awards were given to Olivia Hunter (100m Fly), Nick Botha (100m Back), Callum Davis (100m Free), the 4x50m Male Medley Relay team (Callum D, Callum H, Henry, Stu Clarke) and the 8x50m Mixed Freestyle Relay team (Henry, Callum D, Sarah, Josie, Callum H, Stu, Marya & Olivia).

Well done everyone – same time next year?!
